the gorgeous baby patterns & knits by Tricia Drake

posted by: Amy Small in baby ideas, pixie dust

I'm at a time in my life when many of my friends are having babies. It is a ton of fun and means lots of baby showers and handknit gifts. For baby pattern ideas, I turned to my good friend Tricia Drake, who wrote a beautiful book called Welcoming Home Baby the Handcrafted Way. Her book is full of the most adorable baby patterns and they are all knit on CHUNKY needles- HOORAY! Even though the knitting time is quick, you're not sacrificing on cuteness. These patterns are to die for cute and so creatively written. In her Etsy shop, she sells patterns for her designs as well as finished hats and baby accessories. Be sure to visit her Etsy shop here and check out the pics below of the hat I knit up and some of my favorite knits that she's done using our yarn. See if you can spot the Pixie Dust & Rolling Stone yarn! Tricky's photos are all done by Brooke Kelly Photography.

My hat! I knit up the Criss Cross Hat from her book in Sister yarn - soft grey heather & turquoise heather. Check out more details on Ravelry here.

Seriously does it get cuter than this hat? Insane!

The Wildfell Hat by Cheryl Kubat

posted by: Amy Small in hat patterns, pixie dust, sister yarn

It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of pattern designer Cheryl Kubat and her company Tangled Handknits. She has an amazing way of coming up with designs using our yarns that never would have crossed my mind in a million years. Her Wildfell Hat pattern is definitely one of those. I love the way this hat channels traditional Russian fur hats but puts a modern twist on them. The hat has amazing texture because of the way our Pixie Dust yarn is knit along with our Sister yarn. It may be getting warmer out but I think I might just have to knit this now and save it for next fall! Take a peak at the pics below and be sure to check out the pattern too! All photos are by Meg Manion Photography.

The Pixie Dust Boho Fringe Bag ~ again!

posted by: Amy Small in bag patterns, pixie dust

I LOVE using our Pixie Dust yarn in home goods and accessories. It can be a little chunky for an all over sweater, but in a bag, it’s totally divine! I designed this bag a while back and thought it was worth revisiting.  Today, I finally published it as a free pattern on Ravelry. I know I am biased but I think that Pixie Dust yarn makes the coolest looking fringe. The pattern calls for 3 skeins of Pixie Dust and knits up very quickly. I used the color Aqua Frost, which happens to be my all time favorite. You’ll also need half a yarn of fabric if you’d like to add a lining. Hope you love this bag as much as I do!
