New Pattern ~ The Swirly Shawl by Margaux Hufnagel

posted by: Amy Small in cowl & scarf patterns, daisy chain, swirl

Last January, I started collaborating with Margaux Hufnagel on a pretty new pattern idea in our newest Swirl yarn. Marguax and I had met at a TNNA tradeshow way back and I've been hoping to work with her ever since! She recently moved to the Boston area, so the stars aligned. She writes oodles of patterns for herself, magazines and different yarn companies. Be sure to check out here site Ten Ten Knits.

Margaux's pattern for us, the Swirly Shawl pattern, is knit in a beautiful decreasing scalloped lace stitch. The finished shawl is slightly asymmetrical in shape which creates a nice off center point when worm. It's generous in size and ideal for cozily wrapping around you during the winter months. You'll need either 3 skeins of our newest Swirl yarn or our Daisy Chain yarn. I have been wearing this shawl A LOT this winter and it never ceases to receive compliments. Hope you adore it as much as I do! The pattern is available here for $6.

Willow Street Infinity Cowl by Noble Knits

posted by: Amy Small in cast away, cowl & scarf patterns, free patterns

Greetings from Boston! The idea of posting some of our spring inspiration and patterns seems lunatic with winter still raging on here. Instead, it feels right to be continuing our chunky cold weather knitting, maybe just in happier colors to make us feel a little springy! So this week I'm highlighting a beautiful pattern by Noble Knits, a favorite online shop of ours, that carries a wide range of our yarns. Nancy, the owner came up with the Willow Street Infinity Cowl when in a pinch to knit up a gift for her friend over the holidays. The pattern is free (yay!) and calls for 1 skein of our Cast Away yarn and 2 skeins of Ewe Ewe Wooly Worsted Yarn. Since I didn't have any Ewe Ewe yarn around, I opted for whatever was in my stash to create pretty marled color combinations. The end results make me so happy! I knit these on size US 19 needles, but the pattern calls for 50's, so this really will take you just a few hours. It's perfect instant gratification and a new spin on your old winter cowl you may be wanting to burn by now because you're so sick of it…or is that just me?! The pattern is available here.

Nancy used colorway Wildflower in Cast Away for her cowl, pictured above.

My first combo! I used Sunrise Collage Cast Away mixed with hot pink and orange yarns.

In my second combo, I used Walnut Cast Away mixed with red and maroon yarns.

For my third combo, I used Charcoal Blossom Cast Away mixed with shades of blue yarns.

The Mad Dash Wrap by Cheryl Kubat

posted by: Amy Small in cowl & scarf patterns, pixie dust

It's no secret that we heart Cheryl Kubat, of Tangled Handknit designs, big time. She's designed a bunch of beautiful patterns for us, like the Chelsea Morning Legwarmers and the Cozy Cast Away Wrap.  In addition to the designs she creates for us, she also comes up with her own designs. The Mad Dash Wrap is one of these. This wrap is knit in a simple open eyelet stitch that's fast to knit. The wrap is oversized and can be worn in so many creative ways to keep you warm. The yarn used in the pattern is our Pixie Dust Mini and Pixie Dust.  I especially love the love fringe that combines both yarns. Check out the photos below and head on over to her Etsy shop to download your own copy! All photos by Meg Manion Silliker.
