Fall 2024 Design Survey

posted by: Amy Small

I'm excited to share the style options for our upcoming knitalong, slated to kick off at the end of October. At Knit Collage, we host two knitalongs (KALs) a year and they are what myself and the small yet mighty team here lives for. We work diligently all yearlong on pattern designs that inspire you. During our KALs, we connect with other makers, knit and crochet in community, cheer each other on, learn new techniques and finish with an heirloom to treasure for years to come.

In a completely non-preachy way, I also put a self care bent on the KAL and focus on how good making things and creativity are for us. I'm honing in on this idea for this and future KALs. Each KAL will have a THEME! For Fall 2024, the theme will be Fostering Your Inner Artist. Expect virtual events with special expert guests, community prompts to get our creative juices collectively flowing, and more, all centered around this theme! If you love to knit or crochet and are always on the lookout for ways to dive deeper into your creativity and artistic voice, this will be for you.

I would so appreciate your help and input to make this our best to date. And that's where your vote comes in. The design winners are chosen by popular vote so here is your chance to have your voice heard and counted. Feel free to share with friends!  If any of these intimidate you - please keep in mind that I teach you how to knit and crochet each style from start to finish in an online class that is yours forever. Last spring, many knitters tackled their first sweater ever and many tried crochet for the very first time. More photos and a description of each design below too.

Fall 2024 Design Survey

Option 1 ~ Feeling Groovy Side Tie Vest by Jen Geigley
Knit using Spun Cloud and Mini Skein Sampler Kit

Conquer "shoulder season" with the ultimate layering piece. This super chic side-tie vest has a modern, cropped fit but a timeless aesthetic. Our super bulky Spun Cloud yarn makes this a quick, warm knit but the open sides keep this a very breathable option for fall. Comes in both a solid and multi-yarn option.

Option 2 ~ Over the Top Shoulder Hug by Cheryl Kubat

Knit using a variety of yarn choices!

Introducing the epitome of versatile elegance, our top-down raglan V-neck shrug is a timeless design with two distinct sleeve options, catering to your style preferences. The first option features gracefully cascading bell sleeves, adding a touch of whimsy to your ensemble. Alternatively, opt for the second sleeve style, a classic, straight, cuffed option that works in any wardrobe. This shrug's top-down construction ensures a seamless and personalized fit, while the V-neck adds a flattering neckline. Whether the bell sleeve resonates with you or the timeless appeal of the straight cuff, this shrug provides the perfect canvas for expressing your individuality.

Option 3 ~ Walking on Sunshine Raglan Sweater by Cheryl Kubat

Knit using Daisy Chain.

This one is all about the yarn! The eye-catching colors and unique spun trims of our Daisy Chain yarn take center stage in this simple, easy to knit design. A classic raglan construction and cropped silhouette make this pattern easy to modify for the perfect fit on a wide range of bodies, but the stylish bell sleeve gives this design its retro spark. When knit up in our Daisy Chain yarn, this simple construction becomes a statement piece that will add interest to any wardrobe.

Option 4 ~ The Road Trip Sweater by Amy Small

Knit and crochet using Spun Cloud and Wildflower yarn

The Road Trip Sweater is a unique hybrid design that combines simple crochet and knitting for the ultimate patchwork style. The fit is boxy and cozy with drop shoulders. Scalloped crochet adorns the neckline and bottom edge for a pretty yet sturdy finish. Great fun can be had striping in contrast colors and yarns on the sleeves and crochet edging as desired!

Option 5 ~ Easy Street Sweater by Amy Small and Susan Hislop

Knit using Spun Cloud Light

This top down, raglan sweater is a breeze to knit in simple stockinette, knit in the round, making it super beginner friendly! The pattern itself is based on one of my much beloved sweaters from my 20s. The fit is just right--snug but not too snug--and it's an overall wear-everywhere sweater. The folded over crew neckline is one of my favorite details. Added bonus, this sweater does not use much yarn either.

Option 6 ~ Aspenglow Sweater by Ksenia Naidyon

Knit using Serenity Boucle, Spun Cloud and Mini Skein Sampler Kits

This cocoon style cardigan was dreamed up as a piece of pure comfort and coziness. Named after the glow on mountaintops at dusk, the sweater was inspired by evenings at the ski chalets after a long day outside. Aspenglow wraps its wearer in the warmest hug and whispers tales of cozy nights by the fire. Unusual construction makes knitting this piece very enjoyable and requires minimal finishing. The roomy body of the sweater, combined with the fitted sleeves, makes it a great layering piece. The alternating stitch patterns offer the perfect "just one more row" kind of knitting experience. This design combines familiar textures of garter, classic and reverse stockinette with an extra pop of Estonian braids and a contemporary take on Fair Isle, all polished off with 2x2 ribbed edgings.

Option 7 ~ Happy Dance Cardi by Amy Small

Knit using Happy Dance or Dreamland yarn

This ultra-cozy, oversized cocoon sweater is the perfect layering piece to show off this super special yarn. Throw it over a long sleeve henley or light fall jacket for a pop of color and texture. Size 17 needles make this a quick, happy knit to add a bit fun to any outfit.

Option 8 ~ Take Me West Cowl by Olya Mikesh of YellowBlueDesign

Knit using Serenity Boucle and Spun Cloud Light.

This cowl combines two different textures of yarns in a simple garter stitch and chevron pattern. Generously sized, it can be draped over shoulders as a shrug, or looped twice around the neck as a super cozy cowl.

Option 9 ~ Log Cabin Sweater by Laurel Gervitz

Knit using Spun Cloud and Mini Skein Sampler Kits

Inspired by the traditional quilting technique, the Log Cabin Sweater is a modular, drop shoulder sweater created by building blocks of knitted fabric off of previous blocks. The front of the sweater is worked from the center out and is based on a log cabin design, whereas the back involves working back and forth from the bottom up, joining with the sides of the front as you go. Sleeves are worked in the round with simple striping and a tapered shape, and an I-cord is worked along the neckline, body edge, and sleeve cuffs.

Option 10 ~ Vintage Cardi by Olya Mikesh of YellowBlueDesign

Knit in Spun Cloud Light

This cardi combines a modern striped lace pattern with a vintage silhouette. It features classic set-in sleeves with an updated construction to allow for custom sleeve length and cuff finishing options of a classic ribbed cuff or a stylish ruffle.

Option 11 ~ Wandering Patch Vest by Vickie Howell

Crocheted using Spun Cloud Light with optional knit ribbing.

Are you ready to go through a wandering patch? This multi-craft, bib vest is here to take you on that journey! Crocheted from the "patches" (granny square and rectangle motifs) outward, this project will take you every which way as the garment slowly takes shape right before your eyes. Patchwork panels combined with plain crochet rows, optional knit ribbing, and versatile side ties, make the Wandering Patch vest as interesting to stitch as it is fun to wear. Enjoy!

Option 12 ~ As You Are Quilt Scarf by Afifa Sayeed and Amy Small

Knit using Spun Cloud and Wildflower Minis

Inspired by patchwork quilts made in the villages of Pakistan that are constructed using upcycled fabric from old clothes and saris, this scarf makes the most of the textural elements of Knit Collage yarn. The bias squares are created individually and seamed together after construction, so this pattern really allows you to play with colors any way you wish and would be a great stash buster!

Option 13 ~ Enchanted Forest Sweater by Cheryl Kubat

Knit in Serenity Boucle.

Inspired by vintage nordic color work sweaters and soft, ultra-cozy silhouettes, this incredibly special sweater is begging to be added to your winter wardrobe. A modern take on classic design elements, it's the perfect fit for drinks Après ski, heading out to a fancy dinner party or just cozying up with a nice hot tea by the fire.

Thank you so much for letting me know your faves! I so hope you'll vote and if you feel called to, join me in the upcoming KAL (knitalong!). Greatest Hits KAL Survey

posted by: Amy Small

I'm so excited to present this collection of many of our most beloved designs and best sellers from previous Knitalongs! For Fall 2024, I'm percolating on the idea of having all of the bonus designs be past season favorites from our community. Many of these designs have yet to be released and each one comes with a course on how to knit or crochet it from start to finish, taught by moi! If you were to knit or crochet just one of these, which one would it be?! Let us know by voting in the survey, linked here. For more photos and pattern details, see below!

Option 1: Bonfire Shawl by  Annie Lupton of Boho Chic Fiber Co

Knit in Spun Cloud and a Mini Skein Sampler Kit

The Bonfire Crescent Shawl is a beautiful shawl that is knit from the center out. We'll mix stitches and stripes in the mini skein yarns to create a truly unique piece, you'll wear all the time. The curved crescent shape has a stunning drape when worn.

Option 2: Corrine Cardi by Vanessa Reyes aka Vanrey Knits

Knit and crochet using Serenity Boucle and Wildflower Mini Skein Sampler kits

The Corrine Crochet Cardi is all about making your favorite heirloom blanket into a wearable piece to treasure for years to come. This vintage, patchwork-inspired cardi brings the art of crochet and knitting together. Option 4: Flower Power Cardi by Cheryl Kubat

Knit in Spun Cloud and a Mini Skein Sampler Kit

This fashion forward sweater with large flower pops is the epitome of a statement piece. Using a side-to-side construction, this cardi uses the intarsia method of colorwork, adding big blocks of color without having floats of stranded colorwork. The sleeves have a modified dolman style fit. Rock your flower power with one big flower on the left sleeve and another on the right front.

Harley Original uses Spun Cloud, Castaway, Wildflower, Sister and Daisy Chain. Harley 2.0 uses Spun Cloud and Wildlflower yarn

The Harley Original is an entrelac sweater that is knit with FIVE of our unique, handspun yarns. It is worked bottom up, both in the round and flat. The Harley 2.0  uses just 3 yarns for a more muted affect. Have no fear, the entrelac stitch looks trickier than it actually is and if this technique has always scared you, this pattern is for you!

Option 6: Inner Beauty Cardi by  Laurel Gervitz

Knit using Spun Cloud and a Mini Skein Sampler Kit

Embrace the handmade look and inner beauty of stranded colorwork! The Inner Beauty Cardi combines texture and color mixing in a unique way. It is worked from the top down using stranded colorwork but the floats are the star of the show and face outwards onto the right side of your cardi. From there you knit your body and sleeves in a fun, bubble stitch pattern. An oversized shawl collar completes this cardigan for ultimate coziness. You can choose to work the colorwork in a gradient pattern or mix up all the colors. Have fun letting your inner beauty shine!

Option 7: The Kaleidoscope Cardi by Laurel Gervitz

The seamless, yoke-style cardigan is worked flat from the top down entirely in stockinette stitch using one color a mix of colors/yarns. The Kaleidoscope Sweater is a perfect, basic sweater that is easily customizable to fit your own personal palette. Option 12: Willow Wrap by Laurel Gervitz

Knit in Spun Cloud Light

The Willow Wrap/Scarf is a colorful, textured piece to keep you warm and in style all year long. It is worked entirely in a feather and fan lace pattern, changing colors/yarns, and creating wavy stripes. For the wrap, the cuffs are added on after the length is worked in order to achieve the best fit. There are various options for this design, as well as different ways it can be worn, making it customisable. This is a wonderful pattern for all levels of knitters, and a perfect piece for beginner lace knitters to shine.
