Knit Collage Submission Call

Fall/Winter 2024 is on the horizon, and we're happy to welcome you to our call for design submissions!

If you have found your way to our call for submissions, but don't know much about our brand just yet, we'd like to begin with our value statement below.

At Knit Collage, we foster a kind and joyful community that is a welcoming space for creative self-expression where all belong regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, ability, age, gender identity, and size. We believe every fiber of our company is made stronger by appreciating what makes each of us unique within a diverse community of makers.

Theme/Mood

We are currently accepting knit and crochet design submissions for fall/winter 2024, ranging from sweaters and cardigans, to accessories and home goods, and everything in between. We invite you to view our moodboard for the fall/winter 2024 season here. 

As always here at Knit Collage, this season is all about wearing and making things that make you feel alive and free. Inspiration comes from vintage ski and snowflake colorwork motifs as well as mix matched / patchwork crochet vibes and eastern European embroidered cardis...the overall feeling being 60's and 70's! I'm super interested in seeing designs like our Solstice Hug (maybe a dickie) that are part accessory / part sweater. Home, sweater and all accessory ideas welcome!

Deadlines

The submission deadline for fall/winter designs is February 9, 2024. Please provide a sketch of your design on a body and a photo of a swatch using yarn of a similar gauge to the Knit Collage yarn you plan to use. Please use a PDF format for each submission. 

The swatch should show all key elements, like colorwork, cables, or stitch patterns, that you intend to use in the pattern.

Please be sure that if your design is a garment, it can be graded to give consistent fit and style on a range of chest sizes from 32” to 60”.

Designers who have their patterns selected will be notified by February 23, 2024 and sent a contract to sign (see “Compensation and Rights” below.) Signed contracts must be received no later than February 26, 2024. At this time, we will also send yarn for your design process.

Finished, graded patterns and a sample are due no later than May 20th, 2024.

Compensation & Rights

At Knit Collage, we accept finished and graded size inclusive patterns using our yarns. We will supply all yarn needed for accepted designs. Please note that you may request certain colorways for your sample, but the ultimate color choices will be made by Knit Collage. We also take care of tech editing and testing (testers also receive complimentary yarn) in addition to beautiful photography and thoughtful marketing. 

Compensation for designs are scaled according to pattern type and level of difficulty. Payment will be made through PayPal. 

We will retain the full rights to your design. We reserve the right to create our own companion pieces based off your design following the style and/or pattern used. We will own rights to any companion pieces in perpetuity.

Guidance

For fall/winter 2024, we would like to see patterns that incorporate any of the following yarns such as: Spun Cloud, Spun Cloud Light, Serenity, Daisy Chain, Mini Skein Sampler Kits, Dreamland and Happy Dance. Patterns that have done well in the past combine our embellished yarns with our simpler ones.

We welcome you to submit ideas for additional coordinating pieces that follow your original design, such as a cardigan with matching scarf, or a sweater pattern that translates well to a piece of home decor. Historically, those have done really well for us!

In your submission, we'd love to hear about you and what inspired your design. Additionally, please include any links where we can find you online, such as Ravelry, Instagram, website, etc. 

We will sell your pattern as a kit with our yarn. Typically, cardigan and sweater kits where the midsize (approximately size 3 to 5 to fit chest sizes 40"-49") falls around $248 works well. Accessories will ideally fall in the $108-$188 range. Use the cost yarn prices on our website to get an idea of how what the yarn cost of your design might be priced. Be sure to add extra yardage of approximately 10% to account for variations in the handspun yarn and to be used for swatching. You can look at the cost of our yarn to get an idea of how your design might be priced. Please don't let this limit your imagination! We welcome designs that kit up in all different price points.

If your design is selected, we will contact you and provide our style sheet and sizing guide to follow for pattern writing and grading.
