Meet Emily ~ From Total Beginner to Creative Knitter

You wouldn't know it to look at Emily's incredible Rodeo Vest from this fall's knitalong, but Emily first came to Knit Collage as a total beginner in 2024. She decided to take on the Faye Fringe Bag Challenge, her very first knitting project, with her long distance BFF as a way to spend more time together and reconnect.

 

She caught the knitting bug completely and went from never having knit before, to rocking two knitting challenges (including Entrelac!) and finishing 3 entire sweaters during that Fall Knitalong.

 

"There were so many great designs to choose from that I ended up completing 3 sweaters! I never even imagined I would be able to do that!"

 

With the help of the included video classes, her skills progressed like wild. She credits these videos with helping to make the process less intimidating and says, "they made me more confident in trying different designs and new techniques."

 

 

By the time the Spring 2025 knitalong came around, Emily was fully hooked on knitting and managed to complete three sweaters once again! Two are pictured above, her wildly creative Flow State Cardi with nature inspired felting details, and her Walking on Sunshine sweater that she met up in person with fellow Creative Knitter, Evette P., to show off.

 

"It was great knitting with community and getting inspiration and support from others. I found I was learning a lot more hearing about others issues and solutions from the KC team than I would have from knitting alone in my corner all by myself"

 

She says that originally she was only planning to knit one design but, "seeing everyone projects inspired me to make two more."

 

 

In less than two years Emily went from never having picked up knitting needles, to knitting colorwork (and even modifying the charts to suit her own creative vision!), knitting lace, and exploring surface crochet.

 

Her creativity knows no ends and her skills continue to grow and multiply within Creative Knitters!
