Intro to the 2026 Winter Solstice Kits

Next week we officially open pre-orders for our 2026 Winter Solstice Kits! Unsure about what a Winter Solstice Kit is? Think of it as a yarn countdown calendar where each yarn is wrapped up as a surprise present to the opener! It is a limited edition, artfully handspun, creative fiber treat created to bring a little extra joy into your life or into the life of someone that you care about. I am BEYOND excited about the three colorways we’ve come up with for this year’s kits: Garden Trellis, Chagall Meets the Sea, and Starfall.

Like last year each colorway will have both a mini skein and a full skein option- it's your choice!

This years kits will once again include a custom project bag as a super special fun extra!! The mini skein version will come with a small pouch that is perfect for notions, pens, crochet hooks, all the bits and bobs we knitters like to keep at the ready. The full skein version will include a large tote that will be great for a sweater quantity of yarn or your favorite WIP. They will be totally different from last year and I'm so excited about them!

Each Winter Solstice Calendar will come with 12 handspun yarns that are completely unique, never been made before, limited edition designs. The skeins will be thoughtfully wrapped in beautiful wrapping paper and numbered so you know which yarn present to open first and so on. I'm going to be a little secretive about details but here is what I will say....

Two of the three colorways - Chagall Meets the Sea and Garden Trellis - will be spun in a circular gradient. This means that each yarn color flows perfectly into the yarn before it and the yarn after it. If you arranged them in a circle, they'd all flow together! The third colorway - Starfall - is more of an exploration into night sky monochromatic and iridescent dreamscape. All three coloways will feature yarns that will together as a capsule collection. The full skein option would be completely next level amazing because these would make an incredible larger project like an oversized sweater or blanket. 

Each 12 mini skein or full skein kit is comprised of 6 trim-filled skeins and 6 trim-free skeins of a beautiful 2 ply yarn (similar to the Starspun yarn we created for Knit Stars, if you're familiar!). For this year's kits we are diving into our new-ish laser cutting machine that we can use to create all new trim shapes to thread and spin into these yarns. Think new trims and new colors with the exception of the Garden Trellis combo that will feature all new colorways of our much loved Daisy Chain yarn. The trim for that kit will be the signature white and yellow Daisies shown on the moodboard!

Each colorway of each yarn is a never before produced yarn that may never be produced again. These are super special and available only by pre-order for one week. We have a certain capacity we can make in order to get the yarn here in time, if we hit that early then we may not leave ordering open for the entire week.

We've created mood boards to represent each colorway to give you a feeling of what magical yarn assortments each calendar may hold. Check them out at the links below! There are some clues in these mood boards but that's all I can say!

When you order a kit (either mini skein or full skein), you'll get a free knitting pattern to work with one mini skein version of the Winter Solstice kit. That pattern will be available on December 1. You'll also get access to a challenge knitalong experience that we'll run in early January. It's a great way to jumpstart your knitting practice for the new year!
