About Amy:
Amy Small is the Creative Director at Knit Collage. After studying textile and apparel design at Cornell University, she went on to design sweaters at Free People, a division of Urban Outfitters, for 5 years in Philadelphia. During this time she took countless trips to Asia and her love of travel, crafts, vintage textiles, yarn and knitting evolved and grew. As fate would have it, Free People sent her to a yarn spinning workshop in 2006. It was instant love and from then on there was no turning back. She bought a spinning wheel and started spinning... nonstop! After she left Free People in 2008, she worked as a freelance sweater designer and trend forecaster in Hong Kong. While there, she developed her first line of yarn, the Gypsy Garden collection. On the advice of a yarn store owner, she decided to take her handspun creations to a needlearts tradeshow. The yarns were instantly snapped up by some of the best yarn reatilers around the US and thus Knit Collage was born!
About Susan:
A recent transplant to the world of needle arts from the beauty industry, Susan has fallen in love with knitting and beautiful yarns! During the work day she can be found in the “distribution” half of Knit Collage headquarters, boxing our beautiful yarns for shipment, or taking pictures for our print work, or sewing, or… you get the idea! She’s excited to have found a job that puts all her crafty skills to good use! When not at work, she’s knitting as much as possible, only pulling herself away from the yarn to spend time exploring Boston with her husband and two incorrigible dogs.
About Danielle:
Danielle Shields has been playing with colorful fibers since she was a little girl, but has only been a serious knitter since learning over a beer in a dark bar about 10 years ago. She is a girl with an intense love of garter stitch, reverse stockinette and the “wrong” side of knit pieces. She has gone on to spin yarn, design patterns and repay the favor of her friend in the bar by teaching others to knit at gather here in Cambridge, MA...sometimes over a beer. She lives with her musician husband, 2 colorful little girls, and grey dog outside of Boston.
